CHARTER STANDARD DAY at BOOTS and LACES

On Saturday 1st November, The Essex County Football Association teamed up with Southend United prior to the afternoon match between Southend Unted and Northampton Town for the region's innaugural Charter Standard Day at the Blues' Boots and Laces training ground.

Being a Charter Standard Club ourselves we were given the opportunity to take a group of players to be coached by Southend United coaches.A group of 110, (players(57), managers(6), coaches(5) and parents(42)) representing Burnham Ramblers Juniors FC, made the trip to Boots and Laces for a two hour coaching session for the players with Frankie Banks and his Southend United Football in the Community plus coaches representing the Essex County FA plus Bruno MacKenzie our Under 8's Manager who was asked to help out as one of the Southend coaches was unable to attend. After an early morning downpour which threatened the day the rain cleared up and for 57 of our players ranging from the age of Under 7 year olds to Under 11 year olds worked their way around a variety of skills and drills football stations which included dribbling, footwork, agility, shooting and ball control.

This was followed by a short trip down the road to Southend United Football Club for the match versus Northampton Town sponsored by The Essex County FA to complete the day.

Before the match on the pitch in front of the main stand, a number of Clubs were presented with awards with Martin Leno representing Burnham Ramblers Juniors FC receiving the Charter Standard Award.

Prior to kick off, one nominated player from each club formed a guard of honour when the players of Southend United and Northampton Town came onto the pitch. The lucky lad representing Burnham Ramblers Juniors FC was Matthew Grover of the Under 10's Bears.

The only downside on the day was the final result, with Southend United losing 0-1 to Northampton Town. Southend created a number of opportunities to score including a penalty but failed to take their chances.

Feed back from those who made the trip was that it was a very enjoyable day and well organised. On behalf of Burnham Ramblers Juniors FC the Mangement Committee would like to express our thanks to Steve Goodsell and his team of Pat Kielty, Lana Bond to name but a few, it was an excellent well organised day.
